Info
On 26 October 2026, an evening deeply rooted in roots reggae lands at SPOT/De Oosterpoort in Groningen, featuring Culture (featuring Kenyatta Hill) and Cedric Myton. Culture has carried the Kingston tradition since 1976: sober harmonies, heavy basslines, and lyrics full of Rastafari spirituality and social commentary. Classics from the late seventies such as Two Sevens Clash and Baldhead Bridge helped shape that sound, somewhere between tight offbeats and an almost dub-like tension. Since the passing of Joseph Hill in 2006, his son Kenyatta Hill has kept the flame alive as lead singer, and together with the band, brings the repertoire back to the place where it belongs: live. Cedric Myton, with his distinctive high tenor, stands for that other great weapon of roots: vocal harmonies that grab you immediately. Known from The Congos and the legendary Heart of the Congos (1977) with Lee 'Scratch' Perry, he moves between deep rhythms, Nyabinghi influences, and spiritual songs. In Groningen, that voice comes not as nostalgia, but as living history.
