On October 10, 2026, at Berlin’s Gretchen, as part of '15 Years Gretchen: 30 Years Recycle,' Congo Natty brings the Rootz-of-Jungle wrecking ball to the dancefloor. The North London-born Michael West has developed a distinctive signature since the late 1980s, weaving rap, breakbeats and rave energy with roots reggae, dub and dancehall. Initially active as Rebel MC in hip-house and early UK rave, he later pushed the sound further toward jungle — including a sound-system ethos, toasting, and the whole bass-waves aesthetic.
Under aliases such as Conquering Lion or Tribe of Issachar, Congo Natty has helped shape the 'spiritual Jungle,' in which samples, basslines and MC voices function like their own sound system. Tracks like 'Code Red,' 'Champion DJ,' or 'Junglist' stand for this phase, as do his collaborations with voices from reggae and jungle.
