On October 29, 2026 at Opium in Dublin, Takuya Nakamura brings his hybrid sound to the stage: trumpet, keys, electronics, and a musician’s instinct for building a room-wide pulse. Born in Tokyo and based in New York since the mid-90s, he grew up musically at the crossroads where jazz improvisation meets the energy of jungle, broken beat and club music. Trained at the New England Conservatory with George Russell, Nakamura carries a sharp sense of harmony and structure, but he keeps it flexible, leaving space for rhythm to steer the set and for live interplay to reshape the material in real time.
Producer, DJ and bandmate as much as instrumentalist, he’s known for moving between scenes and formats, from Jojo Mayer’s Nerve to collaborations with CocoRosie, Quincy Jones, David Byrne or Arto Lindsay. Expect a concert that leans into grooves, tight arrangements and improvisation that feels plugged into the city, where composition and spontaneity keep swapping roles.
