If modern jazz fusion, funk, and Afro-Latin rhythms are your thing, Snarky Puppy brings that collective playing power to Helsinki as well. The Texas-born ensemble, formed in 2004, revolves around bassist and composer Michael League, but on stage it lives as a transforming orchestra: often more than ten musicians, tight arrangements, and room for improvisation that keeps the set in constant motion.
In Snarky Puppy’s sound, jazz virtuosity fuses with the direct groove of band music. Many have discovered the band through live-energy-infused recordings, and the same idea carries over to the live show: ensemble playing, dynamic shifts, and textures built in layers. The repertoire draws from a broad catalog, where GroundUP, We Like It Here, Sylva, and Empire Central show how written material and momentary ideas can walk hand in hand.
