Info
Hailing from the Chicago scene, the versatile instrumentalist, composer, activist and educator Isaiah Collier has made a name for himself primarily as a saxophonist, whether with his own projects, as a member of Angel Bat Dawid & Tha Brotherhood, or alongside artists such as Chance The Rapper, Wadada Leo Smith III, Junius Paul and many others.
Cosmic Transitions, his third album with the group The Chosen Few, was released in 2021. Parallel Universe, his following album, represents a new chapter in Collier's musical journey. Embracing the risk and vulnerability inherent in the live process, Collier and his group have tapped into the frequencies of improvisation that have sparked so many landmark jazz recordings. Direct-to-disc recording gave me an opportunity to discover what our musical predecessors faced nearly a hundred years ago, he explains.
Isaiah Collier - saxophone
Conway Campbell - piano
Davis Whitfield - bass
Tim Regis - drums
The saxophonist today announces Joy, a five-track EP. With Joy, Isaiah Collier reveals a new facet of his artistic universe, notably highlighting his singing talents. The piece opens the door to an intimate work, born from the heart and soul of the artist. Written during a period marked by mourning, change and questioning, Joy explores the search for light in the midst of darkness. Here, joy is not a naive escape, but a hard-won, transformative and collective force. For Isaiah Collier, the most political thing we can do is share joy.
