Born in Virginia Beach, the band has shifted from an emo/pop-punk foundation to a softer approach where indie rock intersects with dream pop and a softened grunge. From Magnolia through Peripheral Vision, then Good Nature, Altogether and Myself in the Way, Turnover crafts melodic, introspective songs, propelled by ethereal guitars and more measured tempos, without sacrificing the catchiness of the chorus. Nothing completes the bill with its shoegaze from Philadelphia: walls of saturated guitars, restrained vocals, melancholic melodies, and slowcore tension. Led by Domenic “Nicky” Palermo, the band has anchored its sound on releases from Guilty of Everything to The Great Dismal, with a blend of noise, softness and shadow that truly comes alive in concert. trauma ray, finally, offers a heavier and more abrasive take on shoegaze. From Fort Worth, the quintet blends harmonic haze, punchy riffs, and highly contrasting dynamics, spanning grunge, alternative, and doom touches, as on the album Chameleon. A perfect opener to ramp up the tension.
