Info

UB40 takes the stage at Swansea Arena on 16 June 2026. Formed in late‑70s Birmingham, the band built its identity on a reggae sound steeped in dub accents and working‑class narratives, first honed in pubs and activist gigs. Early albums like Signing Off and Present Arms set the tone with socially aware lyrics and deep, mid‑tempo grooves. From 1983, the Labour of Love series shifted the focus toward reinterpretations of 60s and 70s reggae cuts, later opening onto a more melodic, pop‑leaning approach that carried into the 90s with records such as Promises and Lies.

The hallmark UB40 blend remains: sturdy rhythm section, brass lines up front, and a taste for version culture that lets songs breathe live. Over the years, the lineup has evolved; Ali Campbell left the group in 2008, and this show features UB40 without him. The band continues around long‑standing members and newer voices, balancing original material with the covers that shaped its trajectory. Expect a set that revisits different eras of their catalogue while keeping that unmistakable UB40 pulse at the center.
