Default marks 25 years of The Fallout at Grey Eagle in Calgary on October 1, 2026. Born out of Vancouver’s late-90s scene, the band forged a sound at the crossroads of hard rock, post-grunge and alternative: thick guitars, tight rhythms and melodies built for big choruses. Led by Dallas Smith with Jeremy Hora, Dave Benedict and Danny Craig, Default’s 2001 debut The Fallout set the tone they refined on Elocation, One Thing Remains and Comes and Goes. This anniversary date digs back into that era, leaning into the dark sheen and tense vocals that defined their early catalog while tracing how those songs have evolved on stage.
Joining the bill, Wide Mouth Mason bring a blues-rock backbone laced with funk and soul. Formed in Saskatoon in the mid-90s, the group has long balanced riff-driven energy with elastic grooves, an approach that shifted from trio to the current duo of Shaun Verreault and Safwan Javed without losing its live focus. They deliver guitar work with bite, rhythmic pull and a set that links their rootsy side with their more pop-leaning stretches.
