Info
Big Special bring the Black Country’s post‑industrial edge to a raw blend of punk bite and spoken‑word delivery. The West Midlands duo — vocalist and writer Joe Hicklin with drummer Callum Moloney — craft tense, percussive songs where barked narratives meet heavy drums, thick bass lines and a grain of post‑punk and industrial textures. Their lyrics lean into everyday pressures, working‑class routines, mental health and social frustration, delivered with a clipped cadence that swings between chant and monologue.
Live, the setup stays lean and physical: voice up front, drums driving, arrangements that favour impact over ornament and let the stories cut through. On 1 December 2026 at Bootleg Social in Blackpool, they roll out the spine of their debut Postindustrial Hometown Blues (2024) alongside newer tracks, keeping the balance between hard rhythm and spoken intensity. It’s the sound of a duo turning local grit into direct, unvarnished songs — built for small rooms, close quarters and a crowd that wants the words as much as the hit of the drums.
