Pat Metheny

Pat Metheny brings his singular guitar voice to L’Olympia, Montréal, on October 6, 2026. A guitarist and composer from Missouri, he emerged in the mid-70s with Bright Size Life alongside Jaco Pastorius, then founded the Pat Metheny Group with pianist Lyle Mays. His music bridges contemporary jazz, rock, folk and Latin currents, built on long-breathed melodies, shifting harmonies and a careful play with sound textures.

On stage, Metheny moves between intimate pieces and broader forms, shifting from warm steel-string colors to more electric timbres and the lyrical contours of his synth-guitar. Across projects in trio, small ensembles and solo settings, he’s explored cinematic studio work like Secret Story, the automated-instrument adventures of Orchestrion, and the stripped-back mood of Dream Box, while collaborating with improvisers from Ornette Coleman to Brad Mehldau. Live, his sets typically trace this wide arc, letting themes unfold and evolve through open, conversational interplay, with the guitar at the center of the narrative.
