Info

Alela Diane brings her intimate folk songwriting to Whelan’s in Dublin on September 30, 2026. Raised in a family of musicians in Nevada City, California, she has been shaping songs around voice and guitar since the early 2000s. First noticed with The Pirate’s Gospel, then To Be Still, she has moved between stripped-back folk ballads and fuller, band-led textures with Alela Diane & Wild Divine. About Farewell marked a return to a more bare, introspective register, while Cold Moon, her duo with guitarist-composer Ryan Francesconi, opened a more instrumental and contemporary folk vein. With Cusp and Looking Glass, she broadened the palette with discreet country shades, piano and strings, without losing her grounding in American songwriting.

On stage, Alela Diane often favors solo or small-ensemble formats that keep the focus on phrasing and storytelling. Sets tend to weave older hymns with recent pieces, unhurried tempos, and arrangements that leave room for the words to breathe. Two decades into a steady body of work, she continues to explore the line between confessional folk and subtle orchestration, offering a clear view of her craft at Whelan’s.
