Raised in New York and singing in church from the age of four, Michelle David carries a voice forged in gospel tradition and honed on stages around the world. From early performances with The Mission of Love to starring roles in Broadway productions such as Mama, The Sound of Motown, Glory of Gospel, and Mahalia, her vocals have also appeared on studio sessions with artists including Diana Ross and Michael Bolton.
Since joining forces with The True-Tones, David has released seven albums that blend gospel with soul. They have performed at Pinkpop, North Sea Jazz, on European tours, and at the Winter Olympics 2022. The group has received an Edison Award nomination, BBC 6 Music Album of the Year, and FIP Radio Album of the Month.
With Speak To Me and the upcoming Soul Woman, Michelle David & The True-Tones present a set rooted in gospel and soul. They perform at Hootananny Brixton on 28 May 2026 at 6:00 pm.
