Blood Red Shoes

Blood Red Shoes hit Thekla on 30 October 2026. Formed in Brighton in 2004, the duo of guitarist-vocalist Laura-Mary Carter and drummer-vocalist Steven Ansell has honed a lean sound that moves between indie rock, garage bite, noise edges and a post-punk pulse. On stage, they keep it bare and taut: terse guitar riffs, tight drum patterns, and vocals that trade lead and harmony without stuffing the mix. The set reaches across their catalogue, from the early urgency of Box of Secrets and Fire Like This to the darker tones of In Time to Voices and the stripped-back self-titled album, then into Get Tragic and Ghosts on Tape, where their dry, direct attack brushes against shadowier textures and a discreet electronic undercurrent. Years of touring have sharpened their dynamics; songs pivot quickly from clipped verses to straight-ahead hooks, swapping abrasion for space when needed. A night built on economy, contrast and the chemistry of a two-person band in tight formation.
