Info

On 22 September 2026, The Afghan Whigs play SWG3 Glasgow. Formed in Cincinnati in 1986, the band forged a singular mix of alternative rock, soul and rhythm and blues, driven by Greg Dulli’s writing and John Curley’s bass lines. From the Sub Pop era (Up in It, Congregation) to the narrative bite of Gentlemen and Black Love, then the more elastic swing of 1965, their sound blends taut guitars with groove-led rhythms and lyrics circling desire, guilt and the fallout of relationships. After a pause in the 2000s, they returned with Do to the Beast and In Spades, then How Do You Burn? in 2022, extending that dark, melodic current without losing the pulse.

Live in Glasgow, the group typically builds sets that travel across eras, letting slow-burn R&B undertow brush up against sharper hooks and surges of distortion, with Dulli’s voice carrying the tension while the band locks into tight, unshowy patterns. A focused show from a catalogue that rewards both the long-time faithful and anyone stepping in for the first time.
