Mother Soki

Minneapolis-based solo project Mother Soki brings hazy, intimate dreampop to Folklore in London on 19 May 2026. Shaped during years in Chicago, the project blends indie rock structures with shoegaze undertones and a clear pull toward 90s textures. Think The Sundays, Imogen Heap and Cocteau Twins as reference points: retro-grained synths, dense guitar layers and airy, stacked vocals that open space rather than crowd it. Tracks sit on a firm rhythmic base and weightier harmonies, while melodies float at the surface, almost murmured, tracing lines that linger without forcing the mood.

On stage, Mother Soki favors atmosphere and detail, working with dynamics and small shifts instead of big climaxes. Active on the North American indie circuit and releasing mainly online, the project keeps refining a sound world centered on texture and contrast. At Folklore, Hackney Road, the set unfolds with patient builds and soft breaks, carrying that balance between depth and lightness into the room and sketching an evolving universe where electronics and guitars meet in quiet dialogue.
