Skye Newman

Raised in South East London, Skye Newman writes candid, street-level stories that sit between rap, soul and pop. Her songs move from soul-tinged melodies to clipped, spoken cadences and unadorned hooks, keeping the focus on words and small turns of emotion. An aunt who sang jazz and blues opened the door to studios and songwriting; later, echoes of Amy Winehouse, Adele, Bob Marley and Eminem shaped her horizon without dictating it. On stage she keeps it close and personal, drawing on everyday realities, friends’ paths and the pressure of precarious lives, giving space to voices that don’t often reach the foreground.

Her set shifts pace without showboating, built on narrative detail, warm low-end and lived-in phrasing. Backed by a tight group of musicians, she lets grooves breathe and verses land before opening into choruses that linger. The storytelling does the heavy lifting, with the city’s hum never far away.
