On 21 May 2026 at Electric Bristol, Australian guitarist and composer Plini brings his instrumental project to the city. Since the early 2010s, he has shaped a melodic, progressive approach that threads rock and metal energy through jazz-fusion colors and ambient space. The set revolves around detailed arrangements, odd-meter grooves and wide dynamic shifts, with lyrical guitar leads layered over dense harmonies. From early self-released EPs (Other Things, Sweet Nothings, The End of Everything) to Handmade Cities, then Sunhead, Impulse Voices and the 2023 EP Mirage, his writing keeps evolving while staying anchored in clear themes and patient builds. On stage, Plini plays with a tight band, opening up the studio work into a more breathing, conversational format.
Alongside him, New York duo Sungazer — bassist Adam Neely and drummer Shawn Crowder — folds electronic production into jazz-fusion and progressive rock. Their music toys with asymmetric meters, drum’n’bass-leaning grooves and modern jazz harmony, balancing written passages with concise improvisation. Perihelion (2021) sketched their framework: dense synth textures, melodic bass work and detailed drums, sometimes widened by guests. Live, they reshape structures and dynamics with a sound that sits between contemporary jazz clubs, prog rooms and experimental festivals.
