The Flaming Lips

Formed in Oklahoma City in 1983, The Flaming Lips have moved from garage-punk beginnings to a psychedelic, melodic sound that folds in noise, electronics and orchestral textures. Led by Wayne Coyne with long-time collaborator Steven Drozd, their catalog keeps shifting: from Transmissions from the Satellite Heart and its breakout She Don’t Use Jelly to the lusher arrangements of The Soft Bulletin and the synth-pop contours of Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, then the raw Embryonic, the stark The Terror and the reflective American Head. On stage, the band reshapes songs into sensory detours with saturated color, costumes, inflatables, confetti and, sometimes, Coyne singing from inside a bubble. Live, they blend sing-along hooks, fuzzed guitars, gentle ballads and ambient electronics, moving from bright pop melodies to sprawling, spacey passages without losing the thread. The Flaming Lips play Kelvingrove Bandstand, Glasgow on 27 July 2026.
