Info
Toots and the Maytals land at Leeds Beckett Students' Union in Leeds on 15 May 2026 for the Reggae Got Soul 50th Anniversary Tour. Now led by Leba Hibbert, daughter of Frederick “Toots” Hibbert, the group revisits a catalog that shaped Jamaican music from the 1960s onward, when the Maytals first came together and, a little later, released their debut album Sweet and Dandy. They were there at the shift from ska to rocksteady to reggae, and helped fix the word itself in pop history with 1968’s Do the Reggay.
On stage, expect that raw, soulful swing and tight vocal blend that made their songs travel far beyond Kingston dancehalls. The set draws on essentials like 54-46 Was My Number, Monkey Man, Pressure Drop, Funky Kingston, Broadway Jungle, Bam Bam, Time Tough and, of course, Reggae Got Soul. Leba steps into the front line with ease, bringing her own path as a singer and songwriter who has recorded in her own name and worked with Sly & Robbie, Jimmy Cliff and others, while keeping the band’s pulse intact.
Special guests join the celebration for a night that traces the band’s journey without turning it into a museum piece — living reggae, played loud and close.
