On 26 September 2026 at Chalk in Brighton and Hove, The Afghan Whigs mark four decades of a band that fuses alternative rock with soul and R&B undertones. Formed in Cincinnati around Greg Dulli and John Curley, they resurfaced in 2012 and extended their story with Do to the Beast, In Spades and How Do You Burn?. On stage, their tension-filled guitars, groove-led rhythms and narrative writing trace a line from the 90s era to the present. The recent double A-side single Fake Like / Downtown adds fresh material to a catalogue that moves between darkness and swing without losing focus on the song.
Also on the bill, Ed Harcourt brings piano-driven songs that drift between chamber pop and indie folk. Since his debut Here Be Monsters, he has alternated intimate ballads and denser arrangements, placing voice and melody at the centre. His set draws across two decades of records, up to El Magnifico, with arrangements that keep things close and cinematic while leaving space for dynamics.
