Ne-Yo and Akon bring the Nights Like This Tour to The O2 in London on 14 May 2026, uniting two distinct strands of 2000s R&B that have since opened to pop, hip-hop and club sounds.
Akon, born in St. Louis and raised between New Jersey and Senegal, built a bridge between American urban music and African rhythms. From Trouble (2004) to Konvicted (2006) and Freedom (2008), he moved from R&B and hip-hop toward pop and dance, multiplying collaborations across rap, mainstream pop and European electronic scenes. In 2019, El Negreeto and Akonda sharpened his Afro-pop focus, tying his melodic hooks to percussive, club-leaning beats. On stage, he leans into that global palette, switching between smooth R&B lines and more rhythmic, festival-ready cuts.
Ne-Yo, a songwriter turned frontman, debuted with In My Own Words (2006) before Because of You (2007) and Year of the Gentleman (2008) set his mix of mid-tempo ballads, hip-hop-inflected production and pop choruses. Later albums — Libra Scale, R.E.D., Non-Fiction, Good Man, Self Explanatory — fold in brighter dance and electronic textures, while he continues to write for major performers. Live, he balances narrative R&B with uptempo tracks that carry his hallmark melodic clarity.
