Julian Marley & the Uprising

Julian Marley & the Uprising bring a live roots experience to Jazz Cafe, London, on 7 June 2026. Born in London and raised between the city and Kingston, Marley is a singer, songwriter and multi‑instrumentalist who builds his sound on classic roots reggae, with subtle inflections of dub, dancehall and soul. His writing leans spiritual and socially minded, carried by steady grooves, upfront bass lines and close vocal harmonies that define his stage presence with The Uprising.

Active since the mid‑90s, Marley opened with Lion in the Morning (1996) and A Time and Place (2003), then stepped onto the international circuit with Awake (2009), a contemporary reggae album nominated for a Grammy. Linked to the family label Ghetto Youths International, he has toured widely across Europe, North America and the Caribbean, often in festival settings. As I Am (2019) deepened his focus on spiritual and sociopolitical themes, while Colors of Royal (2023), recorded with producer Antaeus, earned a Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album. On stage with The Uprising, these tracks unfold with patient tempos, layered percussion and melodic call‑and‑response, bridging roots tradition and today’s textures without losing the pulse that anchors his music.
