Matthew Herbert has spent three decades turning everyday life into dancefloor material. Emerging in the late ’90s, he folded household textures into Around the House, then zoomed in on breath, skin and heartbeat for Bodily Functions. With the One series, including One Pig, he pushed his sampling rules into thornier territory, tracing how we consume and listen. Alongside club records, Herbert has written for film, opera and big band, and collaborated with artists like Björk—always treating sound as something physical, social and a little unpredictable.
On 8 May 2026 at Kino Roland in Zürich, Herbert performs live, drawing on that method in real time. Expect a set where small noises become rhythm, voices rub against basslines, and house structures bend without breaking. It’s music built from contact mics and close-up detail, but steered by a groove that keeps the room moving.
Zukunft Soundsystem joins the bill: Alex Dallas with Kalabrese, two steady hands of Zürich’s underground. Together they trade dubby house, off-kilter funk and warm, low-slung tempos, setting up Herbert with a rolling pulse and closing the night with loose-limbed selections that keep the focus on flow.
