Tricky

Tricky brings his Bristol-born trip-hop to Vicar Street, Dublin, on 12 May 2026. Under his given name Adrian Thaws, he helped shape the genre alongside Massive Attack before stepping out with Maxinquaye, then Angels With Dirty Faces and Blowback. On stage, his voice slips between a rasped whisper and clipped flow, carried by slow-burn beats, dub-weight bass and tense electronics. The set draws across his catalogue, from stark early cuts to later work like False Idols, with arrangements stripped to pulse and echo. A female vocalist often takes the foreground while Tricky moves at the edges, steering the atmosphere and dropping verses when the mood turns. The band keeps it lean: minimal drums, bass pressure, guitar fragments, textures that stretch the tempo without losing that low-slung sway. Tracks are reworked rather than reproduced, leaving space and friction and letting the groove set the pace. A focused, immersive live take on trip-hop’s shadowy side.
