Tinariwen - Presented by Modo-Live and I Am the Eggplant

Tinariwen brings its Saharan guitar sound to Edmonton on September 9, 2026 at Pawn Shop Live. Formed by Tuareg musicians from Mali, the group shaped what many call desert blues, or assouf in Tamasheq, a word that carries the pull of distance, memory and solitude. Their songs trace roads through the desert and through history, telling stories of freedom, exile and endurance with a steady, earthy pulse.

On stage, Tinariwen builds a patient groove from interlaced guitars, low-slung riffs and hand percussion, letting melodies circle and expand. Voices answer each other in rough, unvarnished harmonies, shifting between murmured lines and sharper calls, while the rhythm locks into a rolling stride that feels both intimate and panoramic. The music doesn’t rush; it leans into repetition, small variations and space, inviting the room to settle into the beat.
