Mammal Hands

Mammal Hands returns to Toulouse on November 4, 2026, at the Salle Nougaro for a set in which their contemporary jazz intersects with repetitive music, electronic pulses and folk touches. Formed in Norwich, the trio brings together saxophonist Jordan Smart, pianist Nick Smart and drummer-percussionist Jesse Barrett. On record as on stage, they weave hypnotic piano motifs, clear saxophone lines and cyclical rhythms, balancing precise composition with improvisation.

With Circadia, their new album recorded with drummer Rob Turner (formerly of GoGo Penguin), the group develops its textures and leans more into contrasts, from atmospheric layers to percussive surges. Live, Mammal Hands rely on patient progressions, a tightly calibrated collective dynamic and patterns that create a gentle trance without ever overstating it. It is an opportunity to dive into an instrumental world that draws contemporary jazz closer to ambient and electronic music, while keeping the melodic thread at the forefront.
