Tindersticks

Tindersticks will play the Cirque Royal in Brussels on 23 April 2027. Since starting out in Nottingham in 1992, the band led by Stuart A. Staples has developed a distinctive sound: slow, measured songs carried by his low voice, string arrangements and a subtle soul and jazz shade. The early records, the two eponymous albums and Curtains, established their blend of indie and chamber pop; Simple Pleasure and Can Our Love… moved toward a more direct, soulful sound; Waiting for the Moon stripped everything back to the essentials. That was followed by The Hungry Saw, Falling Down a Mountain and The Something Rain, and an ongoing collaboration with filmmaker Claire Denis that sharpened the cinematic side of their music. Recent releases such as The Waiting Room, No Treasure but Hope, Distractions and Soft Tissue show a group that continues to play with texture and space. Live, it's about nuance: gentle dynamics, the dark sheen of the strings, spare guitars and songs that unfold slowly. At the Cirque Royal, that repertoire will come together in a set that places new work alongside older favourites.
