Yard Act

Yard Act brings its Leeds-bred post-punk to The Pearl in Vancouver, BC on Tuesday, August 11, 2026. Formed around vocalist James Smith and bassist Ryan Needham, the band writes like storytellers: talk-sung lines, clipped guitars, taut bass and drums, and lyrics that track work, money, class and the awkward corners of modern life. Their first album, The Overload (2022), set a template of sharp observation and dry humour, with songs that play like snapshots from the street. Since then, the quartet has pushed that approach toward more melodic turns and lean grooves while keeping the same clear-eyed edge.

On stage, Yard Act leans into that narrative pulse. Smith’s half-spoken phrasing locks to Needham’s bass, guitars dart in and out, and rhythms build from a steady march to a quick snap. The set draws on early singles and newer material, moving between deadpan vignette and more open arrangements without losing focus. Special guests are on board to open the night.
