Roméo & Juliette has already captivated more than 11 million spectators worldwide. Translated into 18 languages and performed in 20 countries, the production has become an international classic of the French musical. Launched in 2001 at the Palais des Congrès, the original production attracted nearly 2.5 million spectators. The duo Damien Sargue and Cécilia Cara have embodied the roles since the show’s inception. Even today, Roméo & Juliette allows audiences to rediscover its original pair on stage.

“Returning to Paris with Roméo & Juliette is moving. I was chosen at 15 to play Juliette, a role that marked the beginning of my life as an artist. Reuniting with it twenty years later, alongside Damien, was a powerful moment, as if we had never parted but had been enriched by what life has given us. This return has symbolic value: coming back to where it all began, with 25 years of experience that now inform the characters in a different way. The story continues to bring people together, to convey love and emotion.” (Cécilia Cara)

“Returning to Paris after taking Roméo & Juliette around the world, notably in Asia, has a particular resonance. This role has accompanied me since 2001, and finding it again today alongside Cécilia, with the perspective and maturity time has given us, is meaningful.” (Damien Sargue)

With more than 9 million records sold and songs that have become part of French pop culture, including “Les Rois du monde” and “Aimer,” Roméo & Juliette has left its mark on the history of musical theatre. For nearly 25 years the show has traveled through cultures and adapted to the evolutions of its time: new technologies, new stage conventions, and new audience expectations. It retains what defines it: the songs, the aesthetic, and a strong sense of spectacle.

For Gérard Presgurvic, Roméo & Juliette remains a striking love story. It poses a question that is still relevant: how far are we willing to go for love? Shakespeare answers it with force, and it is that emotion the team continues to share with audiences. Reuniting Damien Sargue and Cécilia Cara more than twenty years after their debuts brings added depth to the production, enriched by the experience they have gained.

The announcement of Roméo & Juliette’s return is proof that some stories — and love above all — transcend time. In 2027, Roméo & Juliette returns in a reimagined version, incorporating new codes while preserving its essence: a story, emotions, and a musical signature. This comeback will feature a new cast, new costumes, and a new scenography.
