Souls of Mischief

Souls of Mischief lands in Ottawa on July 25, 2026 at Overflow Brewing Company. Formed in Oakland, the quartet unites A-Plus, Phesto, Opio and Tajai, pillars of the Hieroglyphics crew. Since the early 90s, they’ve honed a Bay Area style that blends West Coast heritage with jazz and funk inflections, melodic sampling and a collective way of writing where voices pass the mic without a break.

Their debut, 93 ’til Infinity, set the tone with airy production and clear, technical flows. The path continued with No Man’s Land, Trilogy: Conflict, Climax, Resolution, Montezuma’s Revenge and There Is Only Now, the latter crafted with Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad. Across the catalog, the thread stays steady: grooves up front, soul textures and a cinematic sense of atmosphere over showy effects.

On stage, Souls of Mischief leans into that relay approach: tight call-and-response, layered harmonies and verses that lock to the pocket, moving from early staples to later cuts without losing momentum. Special guests to be announced.
