Glen Hansard

On 3 May 2026 Irish songwriter Glen Hansard will perform at TivoliVredenburg in Utrecht. Having started with The Frames in the 1990s, he built a substantial catalogue that includes Fitzcarraldo and Burn the Maps. He reached a broader audience through the film Once, in which he appears alongside Markéta Irglová; the song "Falling Slowly" won an Academy Award and the story was adapted into a musical that made it to Broadway and won multiple Tony Awards. Since 2012 Hansard has continued as a solo artist with albums such as Rhythm and Repose, Didn’t He Ramble and This Wild Willing, and he has appeared on projects with, among others, Eddie Vedder and Robbie Robertson.

Live, Hansard alternates between intimate folk and driven rock, leaving room for storytelling and spontaneous turns. Expect a set that draws from The Frames, Once and his solo records, with new songs standing alongside well-known tunes. With acoustic guitar, a grainy voice and a band that carries the dynamics, he focuses on songs that grow organically in the venue and remain close to the audience.
