Zentone

Zentone brings together Zenzile and High Tone, two acts from the French independent scene active since the 1990s. Conceived as a shared workshop, the project operates through a constant back-and-forth: ideas are built, dismantled, and reassembled in real time, between the craft of dub, instrumental grooves and electronic textures. A first chapter in 2006 and a second in 2021 established the approach: a layered compositional method nourished by an ongoing dialogue between the two entities, their rhythm sections and their machines.

On stage this approach becomes a living substance: motifs that circulate between one camp and the other, delay effects that sculpt the space, bass and keyboards answering one another, structures that drift without losing the thread. There is no fixed format, but rather a shared ground where arrangement and improvisation intermingle, with close attention paid to sound, dynamics and textures.
