Noelle Perna « Mado fait son Cabaret »

On January 24, 2027, at the Bourse du Travail in Lyon, Noëlle Perna puts Mado la Niçoise back at the centre with Mado Does Her Cabaret. Born behind the counter of the Bar des Oiseaux, Mado has retained her Niçois accent, a sharp repartee and a keen sense of observation. In this new format she takes on the role of mistress of ceremonies and decides to mount her own cabaret, inviting other artists. Given a leg up? Truly talented? That question runs through the evening. Mado introduces the acts, swaps lines with the guests and calls the audience to witness it all, between sketches, barroom chronicles and asides.

Created in 2003, Noëlle Perna’s character draws on barroom conversations, neighbourhood life, money matters and couple dynamics. Here, Mado links the contributions, hands out the floor, reins things in when necessary, then returns to the mic for her neighbourhood portraits and her deliberate barbs. A cabaret led at her own pace, where we discover the guests at the same time as she does, in a back-and-forth that blends memories, small everyday truths and situations taken as much from the street as from behind the bar.
