We're bringing a taste of Detroit to Doka on March 21. It's a double bill of Detroit legends Marcellus Pittman and Rick Wilhite, who will bring their signature sound to Doka's spaceship, alongside Cape St. Francis DJs.
Two of Detroit's notable DJs and producers combine forces in the intimacy of the Doka basement. Both part of the 3 Chairs collective alongside Moodymann and Theo Parrish, Marcellus Pittman and Rick Wilhite have three-decade careers in music, leaving a lasting influence on the Detroit sound and its worldwide recognition.
Detroit native Marcellus "Malik" Pittman is one of the pioneers of the Detroit sound and has been one of its influential producers and DJs, with a storied three-decade career. He began DJing in 1993 and has gained worldwide recognition since then. To bolster his musical work, Malik is currently heading his own label, Unirhythm, which will release his upcoming projects.
He is joined by his 3 Chairs counterpart Rick Wilhite, whose sound takes house and disco as the baseline and adds elements of hip-hop, R&B, techno and reggae. He is a Detroit figure known for his selections and production, while also contributing to the scene as a promoter and record store curator.
Amsterdam-based label and event series Cape St. Francis will provide the musical scaffolding around the Detroit legends.
