Info
On June 10, 2026 at L’Antirouille in Montpellier, What The Fest brings together Melt-Banana and Pneu for a bill where rhythmic tension and angular composition take center stage.
Formed in Tokyo in the early 1990s around Yasuko Onuki (vocals) and Ichiro Agata (guitar), Melt-Banana blends noise rock, hardcore and experimentation. Now essentially a duo on stage, the band relies on programmed rhythms to unfold short pieces, tight breaks and dissonant riffs, driven by a high, clipped vocal delivery. From Speak Squeak Creak to Fetch, their language has been refined without losing speed or density, balancing sharp angles, electronic detail and occasional melodic openings.
Born in Tours in 2006, Pneu brings together Jérôme Vassereau (guitar) and Jean‑Baptiste Geoffroy (drums) in an instrumental rock that sits between noise, math rock and a punk/hardcore legacy. Compact writing, irregular meters, repeating motifs and dry, percussive hits shape a style built for intimacy, often performed right up close to the audience. After Highway to Health, Moider and Destination Qualité, their 2024 return with Get Old Or Die Tryin’ thickens the material with more extreme rhythms and electronic treatments, while preserving the direct tension that defines the duo.
