Info
On October 4, 2026, at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam, Joe Hisaishi will bring the music of Studio Ghibli to life together with the Concertgebouw Orchestra, with film footage shown on a large screen. The Japanese composer, Hayao Miyazaki’s long‑standing musical partner since Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, places his themes from works such as My Neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away in a broad symphonic context, closely interwoven with the animation. Hisaishi’s signature remains clear and direct: transparent orchestrations, melodies that unfold calmly, recurring motifs and a tangible affinity with the piano idiom in which he was trained. The Concertgebouw Orchestra projects those colours with precision, from restrained textures to full tutti, always in service of the image and the story. In this way a trajectory through decades of film music unfolds, in which minimalist reflexes and lyrical gestures alternate, leaving room for detail, breath and timing that respond directly to what appears on screen.
