On 30 October 2026 Danko Jones will play with Split Dogs at Patronaat in Haarlem. The Canadian power trio led by singer-guitarist Danko Jones and long-standing bassist John Calabrese emerged from Toronto’s indie scene in the late ’90s and has kept things direct ever since: hard rock with punk energy, garage edges and a touch of blues rock. Expect short, driven songs about nightlife and relationships, with riffs front and center and a rhythm section that keeps pushing. From a long run of releases — from Born a Lion, We Sweat Blood and Sleep Is the Enemy to Fire Music, Wild Cat and the more recent A Rock Supreme, Power Trio and Electric Sounds — the band draws without detours. Compact and to the point, with songs that propel forward without fuss.
Split Dogs comes from an independent scene that first formed online, and has built its path through short projects and standalone tracks. The songs sit between alternative rock and punk, with nervous tempos, repetitive riffs and direct, simple structures; the digital release Split Dogs 4 sharply defines what the project stands for. Live, it’s about tension and release, a rough edge to the sound and plenty of space for rhythm and impact. Nothing superfluous — the focus remains on interplay and the immediate effect of the compositions.
