Paco Peña: Flamenco in Concert

On 21 August 2026 Paco Peña will perform at Caprera in Bloemendaal with Flamenco in Concert. The guitarist from Córdoba brought flamenco from the tablao into the concert hall without relinquishing its rhythmic anchor or improvisational spirit. His playing explores the classical palos, tight in the compás and clear in phrasing, while leaving room for breath and a contrasting tonal colour. Not virtuosity for its own sake, but a focus on dialogue, pulse and detail.

Since the late 1960s Peña has been building a solo career in London, alongside work with singers and dancers and the founding of his Paco Peña Flamenco Company. He composed larger-scale projects such as Misa Flamenca and Requiem por la Tierra, in which choir and instrumental ensemble meet the flamenco idiom. As a teacher at the Rotterdam Conservatory since 1981, he has rooted his knowledge in the region and guided a new generation of musicians.

In Bloemendaal the evening revolves around the guitar and the language of flamenco: meter, tension, answer, and the unexpected accent that opens a theme. Intimate and direct, close to the core of this music.
