Ne-Yo, raised in Las Vegas after Camden, first stood out as a songwriter before stepping out with In My Own Words. Follow-ups like Because of You, Year of the Gentleman, Libra Scale, R.E.D., Non-Fiction, Good Man and Self Explanatory trace a path between mid-tempo ballads, hip-hop-inflected production and pop-minded refrains, with forays into dance and electronic collaborations. On stage, he navigates between writer’s precision and performer’s ease, revisiting tracks that defined 2000s and 2010s R&B.
Akon, born in St. Louis and raised between New Jersey and Senegal, connects US urban music with African roots. From Trouble, Konvicted and Freedom to the 2019 projects El Negreeto and Akonda, his trajectory runs from R&B/hip-hop to pop and club sounds, opening to Afro-pop rhythms. Live, he draws on years of production and collaborations to link early hits with a more global, dance-leaning palette.
