Info
On March 29, 2026, Royal Theatre in Victoria hosts Alan Doyle, the Newfoundland singer and songwriter first known as the voice and guitar of Great Big Sea. Since launching his solo path with Boy on Bridge, then So Let’s Go and A Week at the Warehouse, he’s shaped songs that lean into Atlantic folk roots, Celtic inflections and accessible pop-rock writing. His recent EPs, Rough Side Out and Back to the Harbour, keep that balance between acoustic ballads, call-and-response choruses and more driven titles. Doyle’s set draws on stories and melodies tied to coastal life, with arrangements that carry the feel of contemporary folk without cutting the ties to traditional music.
Special guests The East Pointers open the night with their blend of Maritime Celtic tunes and modern folk. Formed on Prince Edward Island, the group built its sound around fiddle, banjo and guitar, moving naturally between instrumental sets and songs. From Secret Victory to What We Leave Behind, then Yours To Break, they’ve nudged their reels and jigs toward pop structures and subtle electronic textures while staying close to dance-floor rhythms. The trio continues to adapt its repertoire on stage, keeping that mix of tradition and present-day songwriting at the heart of the show.
