Info

On May 15, 2026 at Meridian Hall in Toronto, A.R. Rahman brings Rangreza, a live project shared with Rushil Ranjan. Born in Chennai in 1967, Rahman moved from studio keyboard player to composing for advertising and, in the early 1990s, for Tamil cinema. Roja in 1992 introduced him as a film composer and led to a run of notable scores for Bombay (1995), Dil Se.. (1998), Taal (1999) and Lagaan (2001), a path that bridged the Tamil industry and Bollywood. His music navigates orchestral scoring, Indian classical, pop, electronic rhythms and Western influences, with close attention to vocal arrangements and a fluid use of multiple languages.

From the 2000s onward, Rahman expanded internationally with the London musical Bombay Dreams in 2002 alongside Andrew Lloyd Webber, then to Hollywood with the scores for Slumdog Millionaire in 2008 and 127 Hours in 2010 with director Danny Boyle. He also writes for theatre, large-scale projects and commissions while remaining a central figure in Indian film music. Rangreza sets him onstage with Rushil Ranjan for a collaborative performance.
