Eric Johnson

Eric Johnson, guitarist and composer from Austin, will be at Rockhal in Esch-sur-Alzette (Luxembourg) on July 17, 2026. A low-key but central figure of the modern guitar, he moves between rock, blues, jazz fusion, folk and acoustic touches, with the clear, melodic tone that defined Tones (1986) and Ah Via Musicom (1990). His playing favors line, precise articulation and finely honed harmonies, without overloading, continuing a studio and stage practice developed over four decades.

For this return to Europe he presents Texaphonic, a trio set that explores a precise, open blues-rock while leaving room for airier interludes. On the program: measured instrumental themes, taut but readable solos, shifts in dynamics and a few songs carried by his voice. The classics from his repertoire are close at hand, including “Zap” and “Cliffs of Dover,” a Grammy-recognized track. Between electric passages and more stripped-down moments, Johnson stays focused on melody and intent, with a way of establishing a mood and then evolving it in small touches.
