Info
Black Country, New Road plays Toronto on 17 June 2026 at History, 1663 Queen Street East. Formed in London in 2018 around the Windmill Brixton scene, the group folds bass, drums, guitar, sax, violin and keys into moving shapes that draw on post‑rock, post‑punk and art‑rock, with motifs that nod to jazz and klezmer. Early singles Athens, France and Sunglasses led to the studio debut For the first time in 2021. In 2022, after Isaac Wood’s departure ahead of Ants From Up There, the remaining members began sharing vocals and pushed toward more melodic, chamber‑like writing, a turn captured on Live at Bush Hall and carried across UK, European and North American stages.
Also on the bill, Chicago trio Horsegirl blends shoegaze textures, noise tension and post‑punk angles into guitar‑led songs. Penelope Lowenstein, Nora Cheng and Gigi Reece came up through DIY rooms and all‑ages shows, trading vocals between clear lines, unison and spoken parts. Their 2022 album Versions of Modern Performance on Matador fixed a sound built on simple bass figures, angular rhythms and dense guitars, which the band has since taken on tour on both sides of the Atlantic.
