Formed in 2014 in Portland, Uada carves a melodic black metal that balances swift, serrated riffs with spacious, atmospheric passages. The band builds long-form structures where tension and release are driven by guitars and steady rhythmic pulse, drawing from black, heavy and death metal without settling into one box. On stage, the quartet often performs masked, underscoring a stripped-down aesthetic that lets repetition and dynamics do the work, from the sharp contours of Devoid of Light to the broader arcs explored on Djinn and Crepuscule Natura.
Mortiis, born from the early Norwegian black metal scene, shifted after Emperor toward a solo universe rooted in dungeon synth and dark ambient. Early releases favored long instrumental pieces with medieval, spectral tones; later chapters opened to orchestral textures and then to a blend of industrial rock, darkwave and electronics, with more frontal vocals and verse-chorus forms. Recent years have seen him revisit ambient origins while keeping the grit of his industrial phase, translating these eras live with stark scenography, masks and immersive projections.
