Godspeed You! Black Emperor, a Canadian band formed in Montreal in 1994, shaped a singular approach to instrumental post‑rock between 1997 and 2002. F#A#∞ and Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven punctuate this period, during which strings, guitars, drones and found recordings mingle against the backdrop of a clear‑eyed critique of the contemporary world. On stage, the band treats its sets as long works, traversed by crescendos and silences and inhabited by 16 mm projections that weave a parallel visual narrative. After a seven‑year hiatus the group reformed in 2010 and has since released five albums that extend this collective mode of composition, balancing tension, breath and patience. Godspeed You! Black Emperor will appear at La Cartonnerie in Reims on April 14, 2026, to bring this material to life on stage, amid grainy images, slow builds and electrifying detonations that define their sonic and visual signature.
