Fat Freddy's Drop

Fat Freddy’s Drop, a New Zealand band rooted in reggae and dub, returns on 6 October 2026 to the Radiant - Bellevue in Caluire-et-Cuire to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Based On A True Story, released in 2005. Their music blends reggae, soul, dub, funk and electronic textures, driven by prominent horns, a soulful voice and a relaxed rhythmic feel. On stage, the sextet stretches the themes, alternating reprises and exploratory departures, letting the groove flow between warm basslines, dub keyboards and motifs that evolve over the course of the set.

This tour also serves as a tribute to Chris “MU” Faiumu, founding member and architect of their sound, who recently passed away. By revisiting the album, the band remains true to its collective spirit: improvisation, seamless transitions and variations that shift the center of gravity of each track. Twenty years on, Based On A True Story becomes a living canvas, open to renewed arrangements without betraying its original blueprint. It’s an appointment to rediscover the freedom of play and the cohesion that drive Fat Freddy’s Drop.
