Rufus Wainwright

Info

Rufus Wainwright, a Canadian-American singer‑songwriter at the intersection of pop, folk and rock, presents an acoustic solo set revisiting his repertoire. Join us on Thursday, April 2, 2026 at La Mals - Théâtre de Sochaux, in Sochaux. For nearly thirty years he has developed a body of work that moves between intimate albums and orchestral projects, with forays into opera and musical theatre. He has also collaborated with David Byrne, Miley Cyrus and Jessye Norman. In this pared-down format, voice, piano and guitar take center stage: the melodies move forward unadorned, the lyrics unfold, and his timbre shifts between restraint and intensity. On the programme, a journey through his most notable songs, from ballads to darker pieces, where “Going to a Town,” written during the Bush years, retains a particular resonance. An heir to a North American tradition ranging from Leonard Cohen to Joni Mitchell, Wainwright works on the song with precision while expanding its boundaries. An evening conceived for intimacy, privileging attentive listening and clarity of interpretation.
