Joséphine Baker, The Musical traces the trajectory of an artist who shaped her century, between stage, activism and freedom. This special 50th-anniversary production returns to Bobino in Paris from October 9, 2025 to April 26, 2026, echoing her return to that venue fifty years earlier.
Born in Missouri and married very young, Joséphine crossed the Atlantic, set Paris ablaze during the Roaring Twenties and established herself as a dancer and singer with a singular style—simultaneously humorous, physical and striking. Far from the fixed image of a star, the show unfolds a vibrant journey from her early days in the music hall to her triumphant tours.
The production also follows the committed woman. A member of the Resistance during the war, she put her fame at the service of networks that saved lives and outwitted the Nazis. Later, she fought segregation alongside Martin Luther King and created a “rainbow tribe” by adopting twelve children from diverse backgrounds.
On stage, twelve performers bring this story to life through choreographed tableaux, period costumes and original music. The libretto, score and set design are by Jean-Pierre Hadida, with choreography and co-direction by Florie Sourice, musical direction by Raphaël Bancou and the artistic and historical perspective of Brian Bouillon Baker. A musical portrait that casts a clear light on a major figure of the twentieth century.
