Bibi Club (Montreal, QC)

Bibi Club is the musical project of Adèle Trottier-Rivard on vocals and keyboards, and Nicolas Basque on guitar. They explore the liminal spectrum between here and the beyond, foregrounding love, nature, and community as a unifying objective. The duo reveals itself today through music that blends avant-pop and electronic, with elements of dark wave and neo-folk, while borrowing baroque sounds with harpsichords, trumpets, and ritual chants to learn by heart. The duo christened themselves 'Bibi Club' in reference to the discotheque installed in their living room, where their 'bibis' – their loved ones – come to dance.

In their third album Amaro, Bibi Club invites us to confront the dark demons that haunt us and to devote ourselves to the therapeutic power of a will to live. It explores the emotional spectrum between here and there, emphasizing love, nature, and community as the unifying aim. The songs sketch the map of a world in its own right, following the path traced by the bibis in recent years. Leaving the living room, we dance in a mental space charged with grief and fear in their rawest forms. Following the death of two loved ones last year, the mantra 'I want to love, I want to live' resonates in every melody; if the heart is a place that never dies, we must reach it as quickly as possible.

Inspired by artistic encounters, tours with Blonde Redhead and Circuit des Yeux, and a collaboration with Calvin Johnson, Bibi Club unfolds in avant-pop and electronic music with elements of dark wave and neo-folk, drawing on baroque sounds with harpsichords, trumpets, and ritual chants to learn by heart. Supported by a benevolent community, including saxophonist and activist Dimitri Milbrun (George Sand) and singer-songwriter Helena Deland (A Different Light), Amaro allows Bibi Club to define themselves both in intimate and collective terms.
