“Compliment …” A compliment can make life more beautiful, but also more complicated — after all, “Compliment” and “complicated” seem to share the same root. If, however, Götz Alsmann and his band distribute courteous musical compliments in their new program and occasionally perform rather ungraciously, treasures from the last hundred-plus years of German schlager history help make life less complicated.
But: learning to give compliments is something one must learn. Do not come in with the door in your face, do not overdo it, present yourself with confidence and without fear, and at times not neglect the old maxim: the opposite of a compliment is not to give one.
The jazz approach, with which Götz Alsmann tackles the lyrical, philosophical, melancholic, rustic and humorous messages of songs, schlager and chansons, has made him and his musicians interpreters of their own idiosyncratic art form “Jazzschlager.” The Götz Alsmann Band will present in November 2027 at Glocke Bremen their new program “Kompliment …” based on the album of the same name.
The musicians are:
- Götz Alsmann / piano, voice & more
- Altfrid M. Sicking / vibraphone, marimba
- Ingo Senst / double bass
- Dominik Hahn / drums
- Markus Paßlick / congas, bongos, percussion
“Kompliment …” by Götz Alsmann and his band – a compliment to the audience, a compliment to you.
